Multilingual Directions for Use (DFU’s)

Challenge: Convert the English text into multiple languages with tremendous precision to avoid any client liability, and lay out all files to fit within client’s English template.

Solution: Use highly experienced teams of the finest dental translators, backed up by outside dental terminology verifiers. Render the texts precisely without embellishment or additional explanation, except where needed for clarity. Do a final “global checking” before delivery to ensure that all metric measurements, numbers, addresses and paragraphs are converted properly and uniformly across all languages.

DFU Layouts—Standard Languages

Challenge: Ensure that languages such as French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese which require about 20% more words than English still fit within the client’s English template and the limited space allocations.

Solution: Use point sizes, shrink the margins, reduce the kerning or graphics, or other creative means to retain the text and fit to the allowable size.

DFU Layouts – Special Languages

Challenge: Client’s English templates are designed in Macintosh programs but target languages such as Greek and Arabic are designed for PC.

Solution: Using the finest multilingual layout artists, Auerbach International has sometimes had to use multiple conversions from one program to another to ensure that the target-language PC fonts will work within client Macintosh templates.  This requires extra proofreading to ensure that no words have dropped out and that conversions are executed properly.
